On their second play from scrimmage, quarterback Brock Osweiler found wideout Demaryius Thomas on the right sideline, who then turned it upfield. Thomas lost three defenders, and side-stepped past another for a 72-yard score.

An extra point made the score 7–0 in Denver early in the first.
