Dolphins interim head coach Dan Campbell will not be hired on a permanent basis, Sports Illustrated’s Peter King reports.
When the team fired Joe Philbin after an early-season three-game losing streak, Campbell was promoted from tight ends coach to interim head coach.
Miami won its first two games under Campbell, scoring a total of 82 points. The Dolphins beat the Patriots in their season finale on Sunday to finish the year at 6–10 and 5–7 under Campbell.
Campbell, 39, played 10 NFL seasons as a tight end with the Giants, Cowboys and Lions, retiring in 2009. He began coaching with the Dolphins the following year.
