Ted Marchibroda, former coach of Ravens, Colts, passes away at 84
Ted Marchibroda, the former head coach of the Baltimore Colts and Ravens, passed away on Saturday, Colts co-owner Carlie Irsay announced via Twitter. Marchibroda was 84 years old.
Marchibroda coached the Colts from 1975 to ’79 when the team was in Baltimore. He would return to the organization in 1992, which was then in Indianapolis, after he was the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears, Detroit Lions, Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills.
After coaching the Colts, Marchibroda became the first coach of the Baltimore Ravens in 1996, and led the team for the next three seasons.
He compiled a 87-98-1 overall record in 12 seasons as a head coach. Before he began his coaching career, he played quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1953 to 1956, and for the Chicago Cardinals in 1957.
Michigan’s head coach Jim Harbaugh, who played for the Colts from 1994 to ‘97, honored Marchibroda in a message on Twitter.
