Andy Reid’s clock management may have cost the Kansas City Chiefs a chance to beat the New England Patriots in the divisional round on Saturday.
Down 27–13 at the 6:29 mark in the fourth quarter, the Chiefs began to drive. Alex Smith made big throws, connecting with Chris Conley on a third-and-8, and a minute later hitting Jason Avant on fourth-and-8.
They entered Patriots territory and advanced the ball to the 26-yard line before New England burned a timeout with 3:30 left. Things were moving along swiftly.

Reid and the Chiefs then managed to run just three plays before the two-minute warning.
After a short run, and a 19-yard pass, Kansas City ran the ball with Charcandrick West on 1st-and-goal from the 1-yard line for a loss of one. They let 30 seconds tick off before the clock stopped at 2:00.
Things got worse when the Chiefs actually huddled two plays later at the 1:38 mark, wasting more time before third-and-goal.
West eventually ran the ball in for a touchdown with just 1:13 remaining.
• EXTRA MUSTARD: Reid had his challenge flag stolen right out of his pocket
Kansas City nearly stopped New England and secured one final possession, but Julian Edelman made a first-down catch off a deflected pass to seal the game.
