Trailing 31-14 in the fourth quarter, the Colts mounted a spirited comeback, highlighted by a defensive stop on 4th-and-2 with 1:57 remaining. That gave Indy the ball with a short field at the 29, and Peyton Manning needed only four plays to score. Matt Stover hit the game-winning extra point. (Brady 7, Manning 4)

Peyton Manning finished 38-of-52 for 396 yards, four TDs and three interceptions. He got the Colts within three with 4:46 left on an 18-yard pass to Blair White, who earlier in the fourth quarter caught a 5-yard TD toss. Manning later brought them within range of a stunning win before James Sanders' interception at the New England 6 with 31 seconds remaining. (Brady 8, Manning 4)

In the first matchup following Peyton Manning's move from Indianapolis to Denver, Tom Brady's Patriots rolled to a 31-21 victory over the Broncos. Brady finished 23-of-31, with 223 yards passing and two touchdowns (one passing, one rushing). "Nobody I'd rather have than Tom Brady," Patriots coach Bill Belichick said after the game. "But Manning's a great player." Manning, who sat out the entire 2011 season with a neck injury, went 31-of-44 for 345 yards and three touchdowns. (Brady 9, Manning 4)

Peyton Manning had never lost a game in which he led by at least 22 points, going 50-0 in the regular season in that scenario, and 2-0 in the playoffs. So 52-0 with that type of three-touchdown-plus lead (the Broncos led 24-0 at halftime), and for all places for that streak to end, it came in Manning's personal House of Horrors (Gillette Stadium), against Tom Brady, his longtime nemesis. No. 12 had by far the better night, completing 34-of-50 passes for 344 yards, with three touchdowns, no interceptions and a 107.4 passer rating. Manning turned in his worst game of the season, throwing for just 150 yards on 19-of-34 passing, with two touchdowns, one interception and a 70.4 rating. (Brady 10, Manning 4)

Jan. 19, 2014 (AFC Championship) — Broncos 26, Patriots 16

Peyton Manning outplayed Tom Brady to lead the Broncos to the Super Bowl for the first time since John Elway took the snaps in Denver some 15 years earlier. Though Manning threw for 400 yards, it was more dink-and-dunk than a fireworks show. Brady, who threw for most of his 277 yards in comeback mode, actually led the Patriots to a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns, but it was too little too late. (Brady 10, Manning 5)

The chant began midway through the fourth quarter of this matchup between the all-time great quarterbacks long ago decided: "Brady's Better." In his 200th career start, Tom Brady passed for 333 yards and four touchdowns. Peyton Manning took the loss even though he threw for 438 yards and two touchdowns. (Brady 11, Manning 5)

It wasn’t certain at the time, but this become the final chapter in the rivalry, as Manning would go on to retire less than two months later. The Broncos led for the entire game, withstanding a late rally from the Patriots to hold on in Denver. Manning threw for two touchdowns and 176 yards in the win. (Brady 11, Manning 6)
