Art Briles: Dallas would be a ‘great place’ for Robert Griffin III
Baylor head coach Art Briles believes that the Dallas Cowboys would be a good fit for soon-to-be free agent quarterback Robert Griffin III, reports Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News.
Speaking at the Senior Bowl where four Baylor players are participating, Briles, who coached Griffin at Baylor from 2008–2011, said that landing in Dallas would be a dream for Griffin.
“That would be a great place for him. It’s a great organization; being back in Texas and with the Cowboys and having a chance to get in there under Romo for three years,” Briles said. “Not that they need to sell tickets, but it wouldn’t hurt ticket sales.”
Griffin is still under contract with the Washington Redskins, but the team is not expected to pick up a fifth-year option of $16.155 million.
Since being taken with the No. 2 pick in the 2012 Draft, Griffin has fallen out of favor in Washington, losing the starting job to Kirk Cousins.
Griffin, who has drawn praise from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in the past, would serve as the backup to longtime starter Tony Romo in Dallas.
“He understands perseverance. He understands dedication,” Briles said. “He understands commitment and he’s a guy that has been at an elite level for such a long time a minor setback like this certainly won’t deter any of his plan of action over the next few years.”
