New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks is sending 17,000 bottles of water to a church in Flint, Mich., reports Adam Schefter of ESPN.
The water bottles will be distributed to locals in the area affected by contaminated water in the public system. Corrosive water from the Flint River has leached lead from the city’s aging pipeline, leading to a dangerous level of the toxic element in the water.
Nicks joins a number of athletes who have chipped in to help the people of Flint, including Lions defensive end Ziggy Ansah, who delivered 94,000 bottles of water to the city.
