Ryans, 31, had one more year remaining on the two-year, $7.5 million deal he signed in 2015. The Eagles hired new head coach Doug Pederson to replace Chip Kelly, which brought a shift to a 4-3 defense and eliminated a starting linebacker position.
He missed a total of 10 games over the past two seasons due to injury and totaled 68 total tackles with two interceptions.
The 11-year veteran began his career with the Houston Texans and spent six seasons there before joining the Eagles in 2012.
