Baylor’s Rico Gathers switching from basketball to football
Baylor forward Rico Gathers is switching from basketball to football in hopes of an NFL career, he told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Gathers hopes to hold a private workout for NFL teams during his off days or after Baylor’s basketball season ends, according to Schefter’s report. He will not be able to participate at Baylor’s football Pro Day because of a basketball tournament.
Gathers, 21, is currently averaging 12 points and 9.8 points per game for the Bears.

“Football has been in my heart,” Gathers told Schefter. “.. During my free time, I work on my routes all the time. I have my own football, my own cleats, I run 40s all the time. I think I'm ready.”
Gathers last played football when he was 14. He is looking to transition to tight end for the NFL.
