Denver Broncos quarterback Mark Sanchez says he’s hungry to be the team’s starter in 2016, reports ESPN’s Jeff Legwold.

“I’ve just been hungry these last couple years to get that established starting role ... and now in a lot of ways I’m in control of my own destiny here, to have that in my power for the first time in a few years, that’s pretty special,” Sanchez said.

Sanchez was acquired by the Broncos from the Eagles on Friday for a conditional draft pick in 2017. Denver was in search of a quarterback this off-season after the retirement of Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler’s departure in free agency.

“I had no idea, I had no idea,” Sanchez said of being traded by the Eagles. “And when I got the news, I was obviously taken aback ... they told me I was coming to Denver. First thing I thought of, what an opportunity, what a tradition they’ve built, the winning culture ... is just something I’m eager to be a part of.”

Sanchez played in four games for the Eagles last season, his second year with the team. He threw 91 passes and completed 59, with four touchdowns and four interceptions for a passer rating of 80.7. In his six NFL seasons, Sanchez has completed 56.7% of his passes for 15,126 yards, with 74 touchdowns, 84 interceptions and 30 fumbles.

The Broncos are also reportedly in talks with quarterbacks Ryan Fitzpatrick and Colin Kaepernick.
