Jets wideout Brandon Marshall is growing concerned that free-agent quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick hasn’t answered his text messages.
Appearing on Play.it’s “I Am Rapaport” podcast, Marshall revealed that Fitzpatrick, who has typically kept in constant contact with him, hasn’t responded to his messages for “two weeks.”
The 33-year-old still hasn’t signed a contract and reportedly remains millions of dollars apart with the Jets, with whom he enjoyed a career year in 2015.
Here’s a transcript of what Marshall told Michael Rapaport:
I try to give support to the player, to Fitz, to Big Mo’, understanding what they’re going through because I’ve been through it.
I don’t know what’s going on. To be honest, me and Fitz talk everyday, all the time, but I texted him the last two weeks three times and there’s no response. The only thing that he can do to make this right is to say he was on vacation, I was out of the country. It’s not like him. It’s scaring me right now. It’s scaring me that my guy hasn’t texted me back.
The Jets currently have three quarterbacks on their roster—fourth-year signal caller Geno Smith, who figures to be the starter, 2015 fourth-round selection Bryce Petty, and Penn State’s Christian Hackenberg, who the team took in the second round this year.
Earlier in the off-season, Marshall suggested he’d like Fitzpatrick back in a video posted to Instagram.
