Broncos name Trevor Siemian as starting quarterback
Trevor Siemian beat out Mark Sanchez and rookie Paxton Lynch to win the Broncos’ quarterback competition.
Trevor Siemian will start at quarterback for the Broncos in the season opener, head coach Gary Kubiak announced Monday.
Siemian was a seventh-round pick in 2015 and served as the third string quarterback behind Peyton Manning and Brock Osweiler last season. With Manning retired and Osweiler signing with the Texans, Denver drafted Paxton Lynch and traded for veteran Mark Sanchez.
Siemien has completed 62.8% of his passes and thrown for 285 yards this preseason, with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Sanchez said last week that he thought he had “squandered” the opportunity to win the starting job.
SI’s Peter King has an interview with Siemian in this week’s MMQB.
