Once the king of sandlot football, Ben Roethlisberger has evolved into a cerebral quarterback. And the fact that he has a deep and talented stable of pass catchers doesn’t hurt. When Big Ben is good, he’s very good. He’s legitimately part of the MVP discussion and the Steelers are Super Bowl contenders. And when he struggles, he really struggles. For instance, clunkers against the Bengals last November and in Baltimore last December put the Steelers’ playoff chances in doubt as late as Week 17 last season (they ultimately made the postseason and lost to Denver in the divisional round).
