No. 17: Bruce Arians

In an era of quick-strike passes, Bruce Arians is a throwback. His offense is predicated on deep and intermediate routes, usually built out of complex combinations. Remarkably, many of these passes still take place out of the spread formations that quick-strike teams prefer. This puts considerable pressure on Carson Palmer to play with mental toughness and discipline. Often, the play design demands that the QB throw with defenders closing in on him. It might seem crazy, but Arizona’s passing game had the second most yards in the NFL last year. More often than not, the scheme works well. And when it does, the Cardinals look like one of the best-coached teams in football.
