New York Giants running back Shane Vereen will miss at least the next eight weeks of the season after sustaining a triceps injury that will require surgery, the team announced.

The Giants initially believed Vereen would miss the remainder of the season but are optimistic for his return off the injured reserve toward the end of the year.

Vereen is part of the Giants' running back rotation that includes Rashad Jennings, who has been nursing a thumb injury. Jennings has 102 yards on 31 carries on the season.
