Watch: Broncos win on blocked extra point returned for two points
The Broncos’ win wouldn’t have been possible before the change to the PAT rule.
The Broncos beat the Saints in dramatic fashion on Sunday when they returned a blocked extra point for a defensive two-point conversion.
New Orleans scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter and lined up for an extra point attempt that would have put the Saints up 24–23. Denver safety Justin Simmons leapt over the line to block the kick, Will Parks picked up the ball and started racing down the sideline. A replay review was unable to determine if Parks stepped out of bounds and the score was upheld.
Under the new PAT rule adopted before last season, the defense can return a blocked extra point attempt for two points. Last year, the Saints scored the first ever defensive two-point conversion in NFL history.
