Report: Browns Relieve Interim Head Coach Gregg Williams of Duties

The Browns have decided to pass on keeping Gregg Williams as the team's head coach.

The Cleveland Browns have relieved interim head coach Gregg Williams of his duties, according to ESPN's Dan Graziano.

The decision to let Williams go came after the Browns reportedly hired offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens as the team's new head coach.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport previously reported that Williams was not considered a 'front runner' for the job.

Williams served in the role since Hue Jackson was fired in October. He finished with a 5–3 record in his eight games as the interim head coach. Jackson only won three games in his two and a half years as head coach.

Williams previously served as the head coach of the Buffalo Bills from 2001 to 2003 and posted a 17–31 record.

He was briefly suspended by the NFL for his role in the Bountygate scandal by the New Orleans Saints, where he incentivized players to hurt their opponents on the field.

Kitchens will take over as Cleveland's head coach for the upcoming season.
