Average XFL Player Projected to Make Salary of $55,000
The XFL projects the average player will earn a salary of $55,000 per year, according to ProFootballTalk.
The outlet reports the XFL sent out a memo to agents stating drafted players will become full-time employees on Dec. 4, 2019. If they remain on a team's roster, players will stay employed through May 31, 2020.
"Between the base salary, a bonus for being active on game days and a bonus for being on the winning team, the average player will make $55,000 a year," reports ProFootballTalk.
Darren Rovell of Action Network reports the guaranteed pay on a standard XFL contract is $1,040 per week, while the maximum amount each week is $4,947.
The average XFL paycheck is significantly less compared to the NFL's league minimum salary of $495,000. However, the new league said players can leave to accept an NFL contract after the XFL's championship game on April 25.
The original XFL, which only lasted for one season in 2001, paid players an average of $45,000 for a 10-week schedule. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon announced in January 2018 that he planned to re-launch it in 2020 with eight teams of 40-man rosters playing a 10-game schedule. The XFL's draft will be held on Oct. 15 and 16.
