The Eagles (3-2) moved into a tie with the Dallas Cowboys atop the NFC East after manhandling the New York Jets, 31-6, last Sunday. Philadelphia’s defense had as many touchdowns as the offense, as linebacker Nathan Gerry had a 51-yard interception return for a touchdown in the first quarter and cornerback Orlando Scandrick raced 44 yards with a strip sack in the fourth.
Philadelphia limited New York to 128 yards and Carson Wentz completed 17 of 29 passes for 186 yards and a touchdown. However, Philadelphia finished with only 265 total yards and also came up empty on a pair of fourth-down tries inside Jets territory. Wentz is having an otherwise solid season, throwing for 1,152 yards and 10 TDs with only two interceptions.
On the defensive side, the Eagles have yet to allow more than 86 yards rushing to any team and have yielded just 63 per game on 3.25 yards per carry. That run defense, though, will be severely tested by Dalvin Cook and the Vikings (3-2), who matched a season-high with 211 rushing yards in a 28-10 win over the New York Giants. Cook had 132 yards on 21 carries for his fourth 100-yard game of the season and is second in the NFL with 542.
The much-maligned passing game finally clicked as Kirk Cousins completed 22 of 27 passes for 306 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Both of them went to Adam Thielen, who finished with seven catches for 130 yards, while Stefon Diggs contributed three receptions for 44 yards.
Diggs, who has been the subject of trade rumors, had career bests of 102 catches, 1,021 yards, and 9 TDs in 2018. He has just 16 receptions for 253 yards and one score thus far.
