NFL Admits Second Penalty Should Not Have Been Called on Lions' Trey Flowers vs. Packers
The NFL erred in enforcing an illegal hands to the face foul against Lions defensive end Trey Flowers during Monday night's 23-22 loss to the Packers, NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent announced on Tuesday.
According to Vincent, Flowers should not have been called for the second of his two penalties during the fourth quarter.
"There was one that was clear that we support. And there was the other, when you look at it, when you review the play, not something that you want to see called in particular on the pass rush. One that you can support but the other one, clearly after you review it, you've seen some slo-mos, the foul wasn't there," Vincent said.
On the first penalty, in which Flowers was cited for illegal hands against Packers offensive lineman David Bakhtiari, the drive was extended and ended with a Green Bay touchdown in the fourth quarter.
The second flag against Flowers came on third down and extended what ended up being the last drive of the game and concluded with Mason Crosby's game-winning field goal.
The Lions fell to 2-2-1 on the season, while the Packers improved to 5-1.
