Report: Titans to Start Ryan Tannehill Over Marcus Mariota vs. Chargers
The Tennessee Titans are starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill for Sunday's game against the Chargers, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Tuesday.
According to Rapoport, former No. 2 overall pick Marcus Mariota will remain on the bench after being pulled in the third quarter of the Titans' game against the Broncos on Sunday.
Mariota completed just 7 of 18 passes for 63 yards and two interceptions and a 9.5 rating before being replaced. He was sacked three times.
On the season, Mariota has completed 94 of 159 passes for 1,179 yards, seven touchdowns and two interceptions, with a 91.7 rating. He’s been sacked 25 times in six games.
Tannehill finished with 13 completions for 144 yards on 16 pass attempts but could not convert in the redzone, keeping Tennessee from scoring in a 16-0 loss.
Drafted by the Dolphins with the No. 8 pick in the 2012 draft, Tannehill joined the Titans via trade this past offseason. He signed a one-year deal worth $7 million with up to $12 million in incentives to facilitate the trade.
Tannehill threw for 1,979 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions as Miami's starter in 2018.
