Patriots Place WR Josh Gordon on Injured Reserve
The New England Patriots have placed Josh Gordon on Injured Reserve due to a knee injury, according to the transaction wire.
Gordon has not played since Oct. 10 when he caught one ball for seven yards in a 35–14 win over the New York Giants. He finishes the year with 20 receptions, 287 yards and one touchdown.
Gordon suffered to bone bruises in his knee that he dealt with before he was hurt in the game against the Giants. NFL Network Ian Rapoport reports Gordon's time in New England is "likely over as they are moving on" and he will be waived off the IR when he is fully healthy.
A source close to the MMQB's Albert Breer says Gordon expects to be medically cleared soon and that the injury is "minor." The wide receiver was on the treadmill during a recent rehab session and set it to 22 miles per hour. Once cleared, he expects to sign with a new team, according to Breer.
The announcement comes just one day after the team acquired Mohamed Sanu from the Atlanta Falcons for a second-round draft pick.
Gordon is not the only Patriots receiver injured in recent weeks. Julian Edelman has been dealing with a rib injury and Phillip Dorsett was nursing a hamstring concern that kept him out for a few games.
The Patriots will host the Cleveland Browns on Oct. 27 at 4:25 p.m. New England is atop the AFC East with a 7–0 record.
