Texans President Jamey Rootes Resigns
Texans president Jamey Rootes is resigning from his position, the team announced in a release.
ESPN's Adam Schefter and John McClain of The Houston Chronicle were the first to report the resignation.
"We sincerely appreciate Jamey's multiple contributions to the Texans franchise over his tenure and look forward to seeing him succeed in his new ventures," Texans chair and CEO Cal McNair said in a statement. "We will now build upon this foundation and move forward with a bold and unwavering commitment to winning championships, creating memorable experiences for our fans, and doing great things for Houston."
The Texans said Rootes is resigning in order to pursue his interests as a writer, public speaker, consultant and professor at the University of Houston.
Sports Illustrated's Jenny Vrentas and Greg Bishop previously reported that Rootes was considering resigning earlier this year.
Rootes and team Vice President Jack Easterby, who was the subject of the investigation for his role in the alienation of quarterback Deshaun Watson, were reportedly at odds with each other. Rootes never responded to multiple requests for comment at the time of the investigation.
Last week, the Texans dismissed director of football administration Kevin Kracjcovic and equipment manager Mike Marson along with his staff.
Rootes had been with the Texans for more than 20 years.
