Amid rumors of his impending retirement, San Francisco offensive tackle Trent Williams assured 49ers fans that he has no plans to retire anytime soon.

“Yeah, for sure,” Williams said to NFL Network’s Grant Gordon when asked if he would be returning to San Francisco next season. “Next year, the year after. I’m under contract until I’m 39 years old.”

Speculation arose regarding Williams’s future amid the 49ers’ NFC title game loss to the Eagles, in which he said at his age “you do kind of think about life after football.”

When asked about that quote on Saturday, Williams joked that he “didn’t understand the question.”

Williams was named All-Pro for a second consecutive season after another year of anchoring the 49ers’ offensive line. He’s been to the Pro Bowl 10 times in his 12-season career

Despite rumors to the contrary, it sounds like Williams plans to continue playing for the foreseeable future.
