Pat McAfee Addresses Being Sued by Brett Favre
Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre filed three defamation lawsuits against sports media personalities Shannon Sharpe and Pat McAfee, as well as Mississippi state auditor Shad White, according to an ESPN report on Thursday.
Favre’s defamation lawsuits come as he tries to defend himself against a lawsuit of his own, filed by the state of Mississippi, that accuses the quarterback of misappropriating welfare funds.
McAfee responded to Favre’s lawsuit on his show on Friday, live from Radio Row in Arizona for the Super Bowl.
“I’m getting sued by Brett Favre,” McAfee stated at the top of the show. “I’m getting sued alongside Shannon Sharpe and an auditor from Mississippi by Brett f-----g Favre. Brett Favre’s suing me in a defamation lawsuit, saying I defamed his name to try to earn a profit.”
McAfee chuckled at the lawsuit on air, before diving into the details of the requests made by Favre’s legal team.
“First letter was, ‘We would like you to go back and erase every single video that has Brett Favre’s name mentioned in it from your YouTube library, your Twitter library and everything else.’ So I looked at that and said, ‘That is hilarious! Of course we’re not doing that.’
“Then a few days later, ‘You have until Wednesday, this Super Bowl week, 8:30 p.m. ET to issue a public apology to Brett Favre and erase all of the video in your catalog that involves Brett Favre’s name.”
McAfee said during a November episode of The Pat McAfee Show that “for all the information that we have currently, we have to mention, he tied the hands of poor people and took money right out of their pockets.” McAfee also mentioned during that episode that Favre denied the allegations.
As for the lawsuit handed down by Favre, McAfee made one thing clear: He’s not backing down.
“A lot of people are wondering how my lawyers are gonna handle this,” he said. “You know it, I ain’t got ’em. So let’s ride this f----r. I’m excited to see how it goes. I’ll see you in court pal.”
