Eagles’ Nick Sirianni Won’t Apologize for Sideline Behavior

Ahead of his first Super Bowl appearance, the Philadelphia coach had a message for those who didn’t approve of his on-field demeanor.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni has come under fire on multiple occasions this season for his passionate–and sometimes heated–moments on the sidelines. Whether simply celebrating or delivering an impassioned message to the officials and/or opposing team, the second-year head coach hasn’t exactly endeared himself to everyone that’s witnessed his in-game actions this year. 

Speaking ahead of his first appearance in the Super Bowl this weekend, Sirianni made clear that he won’t apologize for his emotional reactions, explaining that they occur because of his passion and love for the game.

“I don’t apologize for having fun,” Sirianni said, via the Washington Post. “This is too hard not to have fun, and I do this because I love it. I chose this profession because I love it. It is a little bit blown out of proportion with all of those things. I loved playing football, and I love coaching it. I’m not going to hide my emotions at any point.”

Earlier in the season, Sirianni spoke about a particular situation that took place in the waning moments of a game against the Cowboys, a heated NFC East rival. He explained that it was his instinct to stick up for his players in the same way that he would stand by his family.

“I love these guys,” Sirianni said back in October. “This is my family. I’ve got a great family at home. I’ve got great parents. I’ve got a great wife. I’ve got great kids. I’ve got great brothers. But this is my other family.”

Sirianni will surely be fired up to take the field this Sunday in Super Bowl LVII against the Chiefs. If the Eagles are able to pull out a win, their coach will almost certainly be ready to break out his most passionate celebration of the season.
