Colts to Hire Jim Bob Cooter as Offensive Coordinator, per Report
New Colts head coach Shane Steichen has landed his offensive coordinator.
According to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Indianapolis is set to hire Jaguars passing game coordinator Jim Bob Cooter as the team’s offensive coordinator.
Cooter, who was an offensive assistant under Jim Caldwell in Indianapolis from 2009-11, now returns to the Colts coaching staff in a much larger role. This is his second stint as an offensive coordinator, as he held the position with the Lions on an interim basis in ’15 and on a full-time basis for the three seasons that followed.
This now gives the Colts offensive-minded coaches in two of the most important roles on staff. Steichen led the offense for the Eagles this past season, guiding one of the most formidable units in the entire league.
Steichen told reporters last week that he plans to call plays this season. Unless he changes his mind, that will continue to be the case with Cooter aboard.
