Giants to Release Veteran WR Kenny Golladay, per Report

The former Pro Bowl pass-catcher will get a chance for a fresh start after falling out of favor in New York.

The Giants plan to release wide receiver Kenny Golladay on March 15, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, bringing the veteran pass-catcher’s tumultuous time in the Big Apple to an end.

The franchise will wait to part ways with Golladay until the first day of the 2023 league year, per Schefter. The move will allow New York to save $6.7 million against their salary cap, the ESPN insider reports.

Golladay, 29, was poised to enter the third year of his four-year deal signed in 2021. At the time, New York appeared to be getting a star, who led the league with 11 receiving touchdowns and made the Pro Bowl with the Lions in ’19 before an injury-ridden ’20 campaign.

However, Golladay struggled to find his footing with the Giants, even when starting 14 games in 2021. He made just 37 catches for 521 yards and no touchdowns in his first year with the team.

The production from the former Lions star slipped even further this past season, as he fell down New York’s depth chart and ended the year with just six catches for 81 yards and one score.

The Giants were already in need of help at the wide receiver position after Darius Slayton (724 yards) and Richie James (569) were the only two players to eclipse 500 receiving yards for New York last season. Once the Giants determine the future of quarterback Daniel Jones, signing a receiver will surely be at the top of mind for the franchise in free agency.
