Joe Mixon Not a Suspect in Shooting at Home, Police Say

Police investigated Mixon’s home earlier this week after reports of shots fired in connection to an injured juvenile.

Days after police conducted an investigation into a shooting at the home of Bengals running back Joe Mixon, authorities are not considering Mixon as a suspect. Hamilton County police released an incident report on Thursday, per ESPN’s Ben Baby.

The investigation began after a child was shot in the foot in the backyard of a home neighboring a house that’s listed as belonging to Mixon. According to the report, children at the house were playing a game called “dart wars” in which they shot toy guns with foam bullets at one another on Monday evening. Around 8:30 p.m., 11 shots were fired from the neighboring home that’s connected to Mixon, one of which struck the victim in the foot.

Police said on Thursday that no charges have been filed yet, and that there are two suspects. The injuries to the child are not believed to be life-threatening.

“There’s a lot of potential problems that can come out of a situation where shots are fired,” Mixon’s attorney, Merlyn Shiverdecker, told ESPN. “So obviously in our opinion, it was the prudent thing for Joe to get counsel to represent him in this thing, to advocate for him and also to protect his rights and interests.”

According to ESPN, the home that’s connected to Mixon is owned by a trust. But police listed it as Mixon’s residence when authorities issued a warrant last month on a charge of aggravated menacing. That case was eventually dismissed, and Mixon was never arrested.
