The Dolphins are planning to sign Jets quarterback Mike White to a two-year, $16 million deal, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday.

White will serve as the primary backup for Dolphins starter Tua Tagovailoa as he switches allegiances in the AFC East.

Last season, the Jets finished last in the division standings at 7–10, while the Dolphins finished second at 9–8. The Dolphins then lost in the wild-card round to the Bills.

The quarterback spent the past four seasons with the Jets, becoming somewhat of a cult hero by rallying the Jets to a comeback win over the Bengals in his 2021 debut. In that game, he completed 37 of 45 passes for 405 yards with three touchdown passes and two interceptions.

White’s 2022 season ended early when he suffered a fractured rib against the Lions on Dec. 18. White didn’t return the rest of the season.

In the past two seasons, White started seven games for the Jets, going 2–5 in those contests. For his career, White has completed 62.2% of his passes for a total of 2,145 yards with eight touchdown passes and 12 interceptions.
