The Bills are reportedly expected to retain one of the key cogs in their defense in 2023: star safety Jordan Poyer.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Poyer is expected to re-sign with Buffalo after exploring other possibilities around the league. The two sides still have to work out the specifics of the new deal, but it’s very likely that the Pro Bowl defensive back will remain with the team for a seventh consecutive season.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Poyer and the Bills are in agreement on a two-year deal. No deals can be made official until 4 p.m. ET Wednesday, when the new league year begins.

A 2021 All-Pro, Poyer pieced together another strong season last year on his way to making his first Pro Bowl team. In 12 games played, he racked up four interceptions, one forced fumble eight pass defenses and 63 total tackles.

Poyer, a seventh-round draft pick in 2013 by the Eagles, has played in Buffalo since 2017 and has grown into one of the franchise’s clear leaders on defense. During that span, the Bills have made the playoffs in five of six seasons and have boasted one of the stingiest defenses in the league year-after-year.

Buffalo went 13–3 last season and appeared ready for a deep postseason run, but lost to the Bengals in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs.
