Lions to Sign Former Bears RB David Montgomery, per Report
The Lions had one of the NFL’s highest-scoring offenses last season, and now they’re adding a multidimensional playmaker into their backfield.
Detroit reportedly has reached an agreement to sign former Bears running back David Montgomery, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network. The deal will be worth $18 million over three years, with $11 million guaranteed, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Montgomery, 25, has spent all four of his NFL seasons with the Bears after being drafted in the third round in 2019. He’s appeared in 60 games over the past four years, totaling over 1,000 yards from scrimmage in all four. Last year, Montgomery tallied 801 rushing yards and 316 receiving yards over 16 starts.
Montgomery’s arrival in Detroit likely brings an end to Jamaal Williams’s Lions tenure. Williams emerged as the team’s featured back in what became a breakout season in 2022, leading the league with 17 rushing touchdowns to go along with 1,066 yards on the ground.
