Defensive tackle Fletcher Cox is remaining with the Eagles on a one-year, $10 million deal, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday.

Cox reportedly gave the Eagles a “hometown discount,” Schefter said, as the defensive star apparently turned down more lucrative offers elsewhere.

The six-time Pro Bowler is set to enter his 12th NFL season, all of which have been spent with Philadelphia. During his tenure thus far, Cox helped the Eagles win Super Bowl LII, and the team is coming off their recent appearance in Super Bowl LVII.

Cox will return to a much different Eagles defense next season. So far, 2022 defensive starters Javon Hargrave (49ers), T.J. Edwards (Bears) and Marcus Epps (Raiders) agreed to sign with other teams this week. The team also plans to release cornerback Darius Slay. Starting safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson also is a free agent.

However, Cox will be rejoined by cornerback James Bradberry and defensive end Brandon Graham, both of whom have agreed to new deals to remain in Philadelphia.

In 17 games last season, Cox finished with 41 tackles, with 21 of those being of the solo variety. He recorded seven sacks and one forced fumble.
