Saints to Sign Safety Johnathan Abram, per Report
Free agent safety Johnathan Abram plans to sign with the New Orleans Saints, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported Tuesday night.
Abram was selected by the Raiders with pick No. 27 of the first round of the 2019 NFL draft, following a standout career at Mississippi State. In 35 games for the Raiders, Abram made 246 tackles and recorded three interceptions.
Following a mostly disappointing career, Abram was waived by the Raiders on Nov. 8 last season. The Green Bay Packers claimed Abram off waivers but subsequently released him after appearing in just two games.
The hard-hitting safety signed with the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 30, and he went on to record 10 tackles with two pass breakups in five regular-season games. He added two tackles in Seattle’s 41-23 wild-card loss to San Francisco.
Abram will join former Las Vegas teammate Derek Carr, who signed with the Saints on March 6. He will add depth to a talented secondary that already boasts Marcus Maye and Tyrann Mathieu and Marshon Lattimore.
