D.J. Hernandez, the brother of former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, was arrested Thursday after throwing a brick at ESPN's headquarters in Bristol, Conn., police said.

TMZ first reported the news Monday afternoon.

Aaron Hernandez, who died by suicide in April 2017, was convicted in ’15 of murdering 27-year-old Odin Lloyd in North Attleborough, Mass., on June 17, 2013. Hernandez’s trial and its aftermath were covered closely by ESPN and other media outlets.

Sports Illustrated obtained a copy of the incident report from the Bristol police department. Per the report, the arresting officer was dispatched to the scene on Mar. 23 at 3:54 p.m. ET for a check on well-being. It was there that the officer met with ESPN security and was advised on the incident.

The ESPN security guard notified the arresting officer that someone was dropped off by an Uber and threw something in the direction of the building by the northern gate of ESPN’s campus. The officer observed a bag laying in the grass containing a brick and a handwritten note.

The note read: “To all media outlets. It’s about time you all realeyes [sic] the affect [sic] media has on all family members. Since you’re a world wide leader maybe you could lead how media and messages are delivered brick by brick. Clean it up! Yours truly, Dennis J. Hernandez.”

The officer showed a photograph of Hernandez to the security guard, who confirmed that it appeared to be him who threw the brick on campus. After throwing the brick, Hernandez got back into the vehicle and left, police said.

Hernandez was eventually apprehended and charged with of breach of peace, a second-degree misdemeanor. He was released from jail on a “promise to appear” in New Britain Superior Court on April 6 at 9 a.m. ET.

D.J. Hernandez played football for Connecticut from 2005 to ’08.
