Nathan Peterman is reportedly re-signing with the Bears ahead of the 2023 season, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Peterman returns to Chicago for his seventh NFL season and second year with the Bears. He will serve as a backup to starter Justin Fields, alongside former Panthers quarterback PJ Walker, as a part of a franchise seeking to make strides in the NFC North in 2023.

The 28-year-old played in three games for the Bears last season, including Chicago’s 29–13 loss to the Vikings in its season finale when Fields did not play due to a hip injury. In those three games, Peterman threw for 139 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

In addition to his stint with the Bears, Peterman has played for the Bills and the Raiders. Through 13 games and five career starts at quarterback, Peterman is 1–4 and has thrown for 712 yards, four touchdowns and 13 interceptions while completing 53.1 percent of his passes.
