Eagles’ Jalen Hurts Had Offseason Ankle Surgery, per Report

Philly’s star quarterback reportedly underwent a procedure on his ankle in February.

Just one day after Jalen Hurts signed his mega deal with the Eagles, reports surfaced indicating the NFL’s new highest-paid player had undergone offseason surgery on his ankle.

According to a report from ESPN’s Tim McManus, Hurts underwent offseason surgery to remove some “hardware” from his right ankle. The hardware had been surgically implanted into Hurts during his tenure at Alabama after he suffered an ankle injury in a game against Tennessee back in 2018.

McManus indicates that Hurts underwent the surgery in February and described it as a minor procedure, one which doesn’t figure to impact his availability during Philadelphia’s offseason training program.

Hurts also underwent ankle surgery in the 2022 offseason following the Eagles’ playoff loss against the Buccaneers. That procedure was to his left ankle, however, and didn’t cause him to miss any time during the 2023 season. 

Durability has been one of Hurts’s strong suits since debuting in the NFL, as he’s missed a grand total of three games throughout his career, including two due to a shoulder injury last year, for which backup Gardner Minshew was called upon to start. 

Despite the surgery in February, the Eagles reportedly expect Hurts to be a full participant in their upcoming offseason camp.

The 24-year-old put pen to paper on his record-setting contract on Monday, agreeing to a five-year, $255 million deal with the Eagles, which includes $179 million in guaranteed money. The deal was negotiated by his agent and President of Football Operations at Klutch Sports, Nicole Lynn.
