ESPN’s Robert Griffin III Offers Strong Opinion on Who Won Aaron Rodgers Trade

To the 2011 Heisman Trophy winner, the deal was a lopsided one.

With former Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers on his way to the Jets, football observers are weighing which team won a trade months in the making.

On the one hand, New York—Super Bowl-free since upsetting the Baltimore Colts to win it all in the 1968 season—received one of the 10 greatest quarterbacks in NFL history two years removed from an MVP season.

On the other hand, Green Bay is now the owner of three new draft picks, in addition to a better first-round draft pick this year after a pick swap.

While cases can be made in favor of both packages, to ESPN analyst and former quarterback Robert Griffin III, the choice is clear.

The Jets are BONAFIDE Super Bowl contenders now, but that doesn’t change the fact that they got ABSOLUTELY FLEECED on this trade. Packers are getting a better fist round pick this year, a 2nd rounder this year, and a more than likely 1st rounder next year for 1-2 years of Rodgers

"The Jets are BONAFIDE Super Bowl contenders now, but that doesn’t change the fact that they got ABSOLUTELY FLEECED on this trade," Griffin III wrote Monday afternoon. "Packers are getting a better fist (sic) round pick this year, a 2nd rounder this year, and a more than likely 1st rounder next year for 1-2 years of Rodgers."

The 2024 pick the Packers received in the trade is conditional on whether Rodgers plays 65% of the Jets’ offensive snaps this season. Whether that comes to fruition— and how the Packers fare after losing a franchise cornerstone—remains to be seen.
