The Seahawks own the fifth pick in this year's NFL draft, a product of the Broncos' disastrous 2022 season after Denver ceded its first-round pick to Seattle in a deal for quarterback Russell Wilson.

With a major decision looming, a report has suggested the Seahawks could use the pick on an unlikely target: Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson.

"There’s chatter in league circles that the Seahawks could take Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson with the fifth overall pick in the draft," Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk wrote Sunday evening. "It would be a surprise, to say the least. But some believe the Seahawks will take Richardson at No. 5, if he’s there."

As Florio pointed out, language in the three-year extension quarterback Geno Smith signed with Seattle on March 6 could enable the Seahawks to escape any commitments beyond the 2023 season.

Richardson, widely regarded as one of the draft's most intriguing prospects on account of his significant physical gifts, threw 17 touchdowns against nine interceptions with a lowly 53.8 completion percentage while running for 654 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground for the Gators last year.
