Once upon a time, the NFL schedule was something quietly released. It was a footnote, something people learned about in preview magazines on newsstands.

Over the years, the schedule release has become one of the league’s biggest dates. We already know which teams are going to play against each other and where those games will be played. What we don’t know is the dates for each game and which teams will populate the Sunday night, Monday night and Thursday night slates.

However, thanks to some league-sanctioned leaks, we now know a few things. Come Week 1, the Chiefs will begin their title defense at Arrowhead Stadium, welcoming in the Lions. Then, on the opening Monday night tilt, it’s the Jets and Bills at MetLife Stadium.

Below, we’ll keep track of all the breaking news before the schedule is officially announced at 8 p.m. ET. Here are the reliable leaks, followed by subsequent analysis.

  • Week 13: San Francisco will have its rematch of the NFC Championship Game on Dec. 3, drawing a late-afternoon tilt with the Eagles in Philadelphia.
