Following the news on Friday that Dan and Tanya Snyder have reached an agreement with a group led by Josh Harris to sell the Commanders, fans heard from one of the greatest NBA players of all time.

Former Lakers star Earvin “Magic” Johnson, who holds partial ownership in the Dodgers (MLB), Sparks (WNBA) and Los Angeles FC (MLS), confirmed that he is his among the partners in the new ownership group purchasing the NFL team in the nation’s capital.

“I could not be more excited to be a partner in the proposed new ownership group for the Washington Commanders. Josh Harris has assembled an amazing group who share a commitment to not only doing great things on the field but to making a real impact in the DMV community. I’m so excited to get to work on executing our vision for the Commanders and our loyal fanbase!”

The sale is reportedly pending the NFL’s approval, which will likely take place at the owners meetings on May 22 in Minnesota.

Johnson first entered the franchise ownership space when he joined with Guggenheim Partners to purchase the Dodgers in 2012 for a then-record $2 billion. The group then went on to purchase the Sparks in 2014, and Johnson later that year became part-owner of expansion club LAFC.

In a joint statement released on Friday, the Snyders said they were thrilled about the “impressive group of partners.” And now, it’s confirmed that among that group is the former Lakers superstar whose post-basketball career has taken him to new heights in the business world.
