Aaron Rodgers Suffers Strained Calf at Jets OTAs
New Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a strained calf that kept him out of practice on Tuesday, per CBS Sports’ Josina Anderson. Rodgers confirmed the news after practice and said is not expected to be sidelined for long.
“I don't think it's too serious,” he said, via ESPN’s Rich Cimini.
Tuesday marked the first day of the Jets’ voluntary OTA practices, and the first open practice of the offseason. Rodgers spent the day on the field, but didn’t participate as he was dealing with his injury. Quarterbacks Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle got all the reps as Rodgers took the day off.
Rodgers, who turns 40 in December, battled through a thumb injury last season in what became a down year with the Packers. After trading for the quarterback (and his massive contract) this offseason, the Jets are unlikely to take any chances in the spring with his health.
New York will hold OTA practices on select days through June 9, before holding a three-day minicamp from June 13 to 15. The team will then take a break until training camp opens in late July.
