Travis Kelce After Chiefs Practice Incident: ‘Gotta Be a Better Teammate’

Kansas City’s All-Pro tight end chimed in on the brief altercation in Chiefs training camp on Saturday.

Travis Kelce was not happy about his teammate Jack Cochrane pushing him after he caught a touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes at Chiefs practice on Saturday.

Cochrane’s shove led to the eight-time Pro Bowler throwing a punch at the linebacker, starting a brief scuffle before the two were separated and the team continued with practice. 

Following practice, Kelce held himself accountable, tweeting that he needed to be “better” in those situations.

“Gotta be a better teammate gotta be a better leader… plain and simple,” Kelce tweeted.

The NFL preseason always provides scuffles and intense moments between players as they acclimate to the return of play after the offseason. However, as a key piece to the Chiefs offense, Kelce’s leadership will be important as the reigning Super Bowl champs seek to repeat in the ’23 season.

Only eight teams in NFL history have won consecutive Super Bowl titles. The Patriots were the latest to do it after the ’03 and ’04 seasons. Even more, the 33-year-old Kelce is seeking to add an eighth consecutive season of recording 1,000 or more receiving yards in the ’23 campaign.

Currently, the two-time Super Bowl champion ranks fourth all-time in receiving yards among tight ends behind only Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez, Jason Witten and Antonio Gates.
