The Raiders and running back Josh Jacobs have agreed to a new one-year contract for the 2023 season, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Saturday. The Raiders placed their franchise tag on the running back in the offseason, but the two sides did not agree to terms on a extension before the deadline to do so on July 17.

Jacobs, who led the league in rushing last year, agreed to a deal similar to the one signed recently by Giants running back Saquon Barkley, who was in a similar position earlier this summer. Jacobs’s deal is expected to be worth up to $12 million, which is approximately $2 million more than Jacobs would have earned on the franchise tag.

Jacobs confirmed the news on social media with a succinct message: “I’m back.”

Last season, Jacobs ran for a career-high 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns in 17 games and was set to hit free agency in the offseason before Las Vegas tagged him. He was the last remaining player with a franchise tag who had yet to agree to terms with his team.
