Jerry Jones Addresses Whether Jets Called Cowboys on Cooper Rush, Trey Lance After Aaron Rodgers Injury
Following the season-ending injury Aaron Rodgers suffered just four plays into their Week 1 matchup with the Bills, the Jets now find themselves in need of quarterback depth. The topic of how they’ll address that and who’ll be the season-long backup to Zach Wilson will be interesting topic to monitor.
If New York opts to look at a potential trade, the Cowboys could certainly be a team circled as a team to watch following their trade for quarterback Trey Lance.

Dallas owner Jerry Jones was asked specifically whether the Jets had reached out about either Lance or current backup Cooper Rush. While he didn’t go quite as far as bluntly stating that he wouldn’t trade either player, he made it known just how highly he values depth at the position, as The Athletic’s Jon Machota detailed.
“I can’t imagine what it would be [to make that type of trade]. But the facts are, just as they do, we could need Rush in a play. And we did last year. We did the year before. Boy, especially when you got all the promise we got, to compromise yourself with the depth at that position would be very unlikely,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan.
The Jets had only Rodgers and Wilson on the active roster at the quarterback position, but do have Tim Boyle on the practice squad. Boyle completed 37-of-56 passes for 358 yards and threw four touchdown passes during the 2023 preseason.
