Panthers starting quarterback Bryce Young is expected to miss Sunday’s game against the Seahawks after missing practice on Thursday due to an ankle injury.

Backup quarterback Andy Dalton likely will start for Carolina if Young is officially ruled out. Young also missed Wednesday’s practice, leading the Panthers to sign quarterback Jake Luton to their practice squad. Coach Frank Reich said it’s unclear when Young sustained the ankle injury. It’s also unknown when he might return to practice.

The No. 1 pick in the 2023 NFL draft started the first two games of the season for the Panthers (0-2). In the team’s Week 1 game against the Falcons, he completed 20 of 38 pass attempts for 146 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. In Week 2 on Monday Night Football against the Saints, he completed 22 of 33 passes for 153 yards and one touchdown without an interception. In two games, Young also has been sacked six times.
