Jets’ Jermaine Johnson on Facing Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes: ‘We Got Something for Him’
While speaking with team reporter Eric Allen, Jets second-year defensive lineman Jermaine Johnson sent a warning of sorts to Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes. The 2022 first round pick expressed shocking confidence that New York can find success pressuring the two-time Super Bowl MVP.
In life, there is the wise expression: “Don’t poke the bear.”
Apparently, Johnson isn’t aware of the idiom that indicates players should avoid motivating an elite talent who has the ability to dominate opponents.
The struggling Jets, who are on the brink of suffering their third consecutive loss this weekend, may have just supplied the NFL’s best quarterback with added motivation ahead of the showdown on Sunday Night Football at MetLife Stadium.
“We got something for him,” said Johnson. “We got something for him.”
It is simply not a wise move for the heavy home underdog Jets (+9.5) to be supplying the defending Super Bowl champions with bulletin board material ahead of the primetime Week 4 matchup.
Entering the season, the Jets defense boasted about challenging the ‘85 Bears for statistically ranking as one of the best defenses of all-time. However, through the first three weeks of the season the unit has failed to live up to expectations the last several games.
Ranking 27th in the NFL in sacks (6), simply isn’t good enough for a club now facing an elusive signal-caller who has only been sacked once (Week 2 at the Jaguars) this season.
