Bears wide receiver Chase Claypool was away from the team during the Week 4 loss against the Broncos after the organization reportedly requested he stay home.

On Monday, head coach Matt Eberflus was bombarded by reporters with an onslaught of questions about Claypool’s status and future with the organization.

Eberflus struggled to deflect his way through the press conference as he aimed to avoid adding further controversy to the situation with his response. The reporters were unrelenting, however, as they continued to press the head coach for more details about the relationship between the wide receiver and Chicago.

“When you’re evaluating players, in meetings, in practice, in walkthroughs, all those things, it’s important you evaluate the entire body of work," said Eberflus. "We just feel that right now, Chase is going to be out of the building is best for our football team.

Eberflus refused to clarify whether or not Claypool had a long-term future with the Bears, but did specify that he wouldn’t be active on Thursday against the Commanders in Week 5.

When asked what led to Claypool being asked to stay home, Eberflus maintained that the organization thought it was “best for the team.”

Just last season, the Bears traded a second-round pick to the Steelers in exchange for Claypool, who ended up being the No. 32 selection in the 2023 NFL draft.
