Contradicting a previous report about his status, Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson may be back sooner than anticipated.

Watson is battling a deep rotator cuff confusion but could be in line to return on Oct. 22 when Cleveland visits the Colts, according to a Saturday evening report from ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Per Schefter, Watson’s injury “has made it difficult for him to drive the football when he throws.” The three-time Pro Bowler has not played since a 289-yard, two-touchdown outing in the Browns’ 27–3 win over the Titans on Sept. 24.

In its most recent game on Oct. 1, Cleveland started quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson in a 28–3 loss to the Ravens.

Schefter’s update differed from a Friday report from Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot that indicated Watson could be out multiple games.

Watson has thrown four touchdowns and two interceptions in three games for the Browns, who are a half-game out of first place in the AFC North at 2–2. Cleveland is set to host the 49ers on Sunday; P.J. Walker will reportedly start at quarterback for the home team.
