Raiders’ Josh McDaniels Updates QB Jimmy Garoppolo’s Injury Status

Raiders coach Josh McDaniels told reporters Monday that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo avoided major injury after he was seen leaving Sunday’s game against the Patriots in an ambulance at halftime. McDaniels said the signal-caller underwent scans to detect a possible internal injury.

“Seems like we dodged a big bullet,” McDaniels said, according to ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez. “Still doing a couple things this morning. The prognosis was a lot better than it might have otherwise been … good news.”

Garoppolo is listed with a nonspecific back injury and appeared to suffer it when he took a hit from New England linebacker Jahlani Tavai. The QB went back to the locker room and eventually was transported to a hospital. A timetable for his return has not been made.

In his stead, Brian Hoyer filled in and threw for 102 yards in the eventual 21–17 win over the Patriots. It’s unclear whether Garoppolo will be able to play in the team’s Week 7 road game against the Bears on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
